A new twist on communion
We had another "Kai moment" yesterday that I just had to share. After school, he comes racing up to the door with a small bag of bread. I ask him what it is for and he says "This is Jesus' skin, broken for you Mom!" He further explained that they drank grape juice in representation of his blood and that he died on the cross for his sins. Pretty deep for a 5 yr old (and I was thrilled that his school initiated this!) He carried the bag around for the rest of the afternoon, with it never leaving his side. A few times Becket tried snatching it and he protected it like it was his most precious treasure. Later that day, we had to go pick up Luke's car and decided to hit Chili's for their Monday night fajita special. We sit down, order and talk. All while, he still has this bag of bread in his hand. The waitress brings us our dinners and he loudly proclaims "Okay everybody! It's time for communion!" He quickly pulls the bread out of the bag and starts breaking off small pieces for everyone. We tried to interupt by telling him that we would do this later and he insists that his teacher told him to do it at dinner. The pieces are passed out in a matter of seconds and he keeps one huge piece for himself(he is a huge breadlover(-:) He scarfs it down. Words don't describe how blunt, sincere and funny this whole ordeal was. You really had to be there! Needless to say we had a great opportunity to reinforce what communion really meant and explain once again what Jesus did for us on the cross, how He rose again, and those who believe in Him will live with Him forever in eternity. We hope these baby steps will bring Kai to a decision to make Jesus Christ his Lord and Saviour for life!
